The Stormwater Program hosted a NCSU Extension Stream Bank Repair Workshop on March 16, 2023. The workshop focused on small-scale repair of eroding stream banks using green infrastructure techniques such as live staking and bank stabilization. The workshop also covered relevant permits, and when they are required. Participants used information from the morning session to repair a 75’ stretch of riverbank along the Swannanoa River adjacent to the Public Works building.
The photo shows the repaired stream bank- live stakes and whips have been installed near the water line and coconut coir matting covers the native seed mix and stabilizes the ground.
If you have an eroding stream or river bank on your property, you can read more about stream bank repair on the Town’s Stormwater Page: Private Property Resources | Black Mountain, NC (townofblackmountain.org) Those resources can help identify if your project can be addressed with small-scale techniques or whether a structural engineer may be required.
