[ARCHIVED] New bioswales installed during free workshop
On September 27th, the Town hosted a free hands-on workshop about bioswales led by RiverLink and Yummy Yards. The workshop’s ten participants helped build and plant two new bioswales along N Blue Ridge Rd at Black Mountain Montessori School, 101 Carver Ave.
Bioswales are linear rain gardens that can help alleviate erosion issues caused by stormwater on a steep slope. The series of ditches and berms helps the stormwater slow down and soak into the ground. Plants in the bioswales utilize the retained stormwater while helping hold the soil in place.
See the photos below for before, during and after photos of the bioswale installation. Thank you to Emily Hurd for the photo of the workshop participants working!
The Town offers free workshops on private property stormwater management techniques throughout the year. Sign up for Stormwater News Alerts here to learn about upcoming events: Notify Me • Black Mountain, NC • CivicEngage (townofblackmountain.org)
